AMATEUR RADIO (often referred to as Ham Radio)
The Juan De Fuca 55+ seniors center has a fully equipped amateur radio station that is available to provide communications in the event of a major disaster or crisis. Activities during normal times consists of participating in various simulated emergency situations and establishing communication with organized groups as well as random radio operators throughout the continent or around the world as radio conditions permit. We offer help to those taking the course to become amateur radio operators, although we do not offer a course here on site.
Participants need not hold an amateur radio operators license. Non licensed individuals may operate the radio provided they operate the equipment only when in the presence of a licensed amateur radio operator.
From time to time we practise our Morse Code skills.

Computer Use Basics class:
What's covered? Windows 10 and previous versions: initial use, security, email, Internet, hardware/software...
Instruction is primarily for the PC but some Apple/Android could be covered as well. The number of sessions will be dependent upon turnout.
New to computers? Just have a question or two? Drop in to the class to clarify computer problems. You may come each week or simply when you have a problem. Query acquisition. Assess system set-up. Address file organization and backup. Explore software options. Sort out security. Any other topic you wish to discuss. Individual attention for each participant. If you work on a laptop, please bring it with you. If you work with a desktop the instructor will demonstrate on computer.

A creative writing group. Members read part or all of their writings to the others and receive critique and suggestions for improvement to their "work in progress" before possibly submitting to a potential publisher.
