Juan de Fuca 55+ Activity Center
hosts a number of Music and Dance activities

 CLOG DANCING
A fun dance form for ladies and gentlemen. Cloggers keep time to the music with the heel of the foot by moving their feet up and down. One can hear the rhythm produced by the two taps on each shoe. Clogging is done to all kinds of music. Our version is low impact, so not as high stepping as some.

DO YOU WANT TO DANCE
This is a social dance evening where you can help to choose the music. Bring a friend if you like.  Membership at the JDF 55 plus center is NOT a requirement.  This dance is open to members and non-members.

HAWAIIAN DANCE
The hula is a graceful dance form accompanied by chant or song. Movements of the hula dramatize or portray the words of the chant or song in a visual dance form. Join us to learn a variety of fairly modern hulas. This is low impact dancing and just plain fun.
Requirements: A sarong, lei and soft shoes. To start; come to the class without them. We will assist you to find these item inexpensively.

JDF Players
Produces variety shows; usually a couple per year.

 LINE DANCING
A line dance is a choreographed sequence of steps, danced by individuals in lines.  A partner is not required.  It used to be associated with country music but now is danced  to many different genres of music, including Latin,  ballroom, popular, and modern.

BEGINNERS:  For those who have never line danced before, or who just need to brush up on some steps. A few simple dances will be taught and practised.

LEVEL 1:  More line dances will be added to your repertoire. Learn new step sequences to help improve your line dancing vocabulary.

LEVEL 2/ INTERMEDIATE:  Line dances may be more complex, through the use of different or faster songs, and may include tags and restarts.  If you know the basic step sequences, such as coaster step, pivot turns, shuffles, and rocks, you will be able to learn the dances quicker. Dances will be walked through first.

Recommended: Shoes with a smooth sole, suede – not rubber.

SINGING:
This is not a choir, but a singing group that entertains at care facilities around the city. We work with lyrics only. Music sheets are not required as the tunes are generally familiar and we do not do harmony. We just have fun

TAP DANCING
We are a lively, noisy group. Join us just for fun.
Required: Tap shoes. We can often help with finding tap shoes for beginners.
